The Operations Division moved from Building 523 to its new location, Building 526 pictured here. Building 526, a completely new structure is located directly behind and linked to 1^st Weather Group Headquarters, Building 520. The interior of the new operations building was insulated with flare cases. All other construction such as insulation, paneling, painting, tiling, lighting and air conditioning were accomplished by members of the Operations Staff. Location: Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. 1^st Weather Group, 5^th Weather Squadron, Long Binh Army Installation, Vietnam Technical Sergeant Lawrence L. Young, Forecaster at Detachment 11, measures the depth of the water on the floor of the base weather station at Vinh Long, Vietnam. On 15 September 1968, Colonel Ralph G. Suggs, Colonel Joseph M. Bird, and Colonel C.J. Loisel accompanied Lt Colonel William E. Cummins on a visit to 5^th Weather Squadron units in the vicinity of Saigon. First stop was the 1^st Infantry Division Weather Station at Phu Loi. 	1^st Weather Wing History 01 January – 30 June 1969 Volume II. Location: Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. Detachment 34, 1^st Weather Group, Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Vietnam. The construction of a 16 fool tower, on a self help basis, for the AN/FPS-103 Radar Set enabled maintenance personnel to completely check out repaired AN/FPS-103 radar components under field conditions. This tower has become an invaluable asset to the Intermediate Maintenance Shop and precluded maintenance teams from taking defective radar turn-around spare units from the shop in a non-serviceable status. All equipment mock-ups were operationally installed during this period. These mock-ups which included the AN/GMD-1A Rawinsonde Set, AN/FPS-103 Radar Set, AN/GMQ-13 Ceilometer, AN/TMQ-14 Tactical Ceilometer, AN-TMQ-15 Tactical Wind Set, and the AN/TMQ-20 Tactical Temperature/Humidity Set, are used to provide OJT training, an operational system to check out repaired components, and as a source of critically needed spare parts. The maintenance working area was completely reorganized and repainted. New work benches were installed and the indicators from the outdoor mock-ups were installed in a central location.
